BES Wins Olympic Contract

BES was awarded the contract by the State of Utah to prepare Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) plans for the 2002 Olympics?/a> Bobsled/Luge Track. The bobsled/luge run is cooled by a 110,000 pound ammonia refrigeration system—one of the largest in the world. As completed, the Bobsled Track is the fastest in the world.

BES, in conjunction with Salt Lake City refrigeration engineering firm L. A. Roser, worked with city, state, and emergency assistance personnel in developing the PSM and RMP plans for the facility. The plans, designed to reduce the risk of and provide mitigation for potential accidents involving ammonia, are required under the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Both U.S. EPA and OSHA have developed regulations that govern the management of such acutely hazardous materials (AHMs). The original plans were completed February 1997.

Visit our RMP Tool Box for further information on the RMP regulations and their implementation.
